| Mastering is often one of the most overlooked aspects of the recording process, yet is one of the most valuable steps in creating a professional recording. Where as in mixing you are focusing on individual elements within a song like the bass guitar snare drum, and vocal, in mastering you are focusing on the song as a complete entity. In mastering your concern is no longer the kick drum or bass guitar or vocal, but rather your low frequencies, your high frequencies, and your type of compression to truly make the song sound the best it can be. Furthermore, it is taking a collection of songs and making them sound cohesive as a single album as opposed to a collection of individual songs. Mastering it was makes the difference between novice and professional. |
